The Syzygy Astronomical Observatory is currently under construction, expected to be complete and operational in 2026. Featuring a 24 inch telescope (a PlaneWave CDK 600), it is expected to be the largest fixed telescope in northern Alberta. When it is up and running, a wealth of information will be available, including images and data taken from the telescope, as well as live information about what is currently being observed and in the observation queue. For now, you can see the current view from our all-sky meteor camera below if it’s dark, check out the astronomical weather forecast and seeing conditions for the site, check out the probability to see the aurora borealis and the current status of the Sun, or learn more about our background and current state of construction.

This is the live view from our all-sky meteor camera, updated every 10 minutes, when it is night. Note that the time stamp in the image is in UTC – to convert to Mountain Standard Time, subtract 6 hours if Daylight Savings Time is in effect, and 7 hours if not.
